Onyx is a special variety of the mineral Chalcedony. It is found in a range of colours, though the most common is black with white bands.

It has been in use for a very long time — it was already incredibly popular among the ancient Egyptians, who used it to craft bowls and other practical objects. The Romans also wore this special mineral, believing it would instil the courage they needed to succeed in battle.

Since then it has appeared across many different cultures and remains widely beloved to this day.
