Lepidolite is a violet-grey mineral belonging to the same family as Muscovite. It is the mineral with the highest lithium content and is used industrially as a source of this element.
Lepidolite, like all other minerals in the "Mica" group, is extremely brittle and tends to crumble easily.
Most Lepidolite comes from Brazil, and it is found in a range of colours. In nature it most commonly appears in pink, violet and red; occasionally it is found in grey, and very rarely in yellow.
Its reddish hue comes from its manganese content.
