Dravite is a special variety of the crystal Tourmaline, also known as Brown Tourmaline, and named after the Drava river. It is recognised by its deep brown or deep golden-yellow colour.

It was first discovered in 1883 at Dobrova near Dravograd, where several deposits were later found. One of the larger deposits of Dravite was subsequently found in Australia — discovered by the Slovenian Soklič family. What a remarkable coincidence!
