Desert Rose is the name used today for a cluster of Barite or Selenite crystals that incorporate large grains of sand.
The "petals" of these roses form in dry, sandy conditions. Selenite or Barite crystallises together, building up into a larger crystal. That crystal is then shaped by natural elements — wind and sand — into this beautiful form.
