The Magical Cleansing Cedar

Cedar may not be as widely known today as white sage, yet the spiritual world has known and used it for many thousands of years. In times past, cedar smoke was used at the doorways of temples — it protected the space from negative and unwanted energy, preventing it from entering.

Today we use it primarily for regular energetic cleansing of our spaces. It is said to be an element of protection, because it not only cleanses a space but also prevents further intrusions of unwanted energies. We can also cleanse ourselves with cedar smoke. When we draw the smoke along our body, it creates an energetic barrier between our being and external negative influences.

Product Properties

• Organic cedar, sustainably grown in the Netherlands.
• The bundle measures approximately 11 cm in length.
  
• The scent is similar to white sage, though slightly less intense. Ideal for those who find the scent of sage too strong.

Instructions for Use

We gently and slowly light the cedar over a flame. We recommend lighting it over the flame of a candle. Direct lighting with a lighter is not recommended, as it introduces unpleasant odours into the process. We want the lighting process to feel natural, just as it was done thousands of years ago.

When lighting cedar for the first time, we let a small flame form. It is important not to blow the flame out. The Indigenous peoples of the Americas believe that by blowing out the flame, you release and extinguish your own soul from your body. Instead, we turn the cedar vertically upward (so the flame is at the top), where it will naturally go out on its own and begin releasing a pleasant, deeply relaxing scent.

If the flame does not go out on its own, we wave it gently through the air to extinguish it with the breeze.

Space Cleansing

With the smouldering cedar, we walk through the space and make slow, circular movements as we go. This extends the smouldering of the cedar bundle.

We recommend holding a small bowl beneath the cedar with your other hand to catch any falling embers and prevent damage to objects in your space.

If we want to cleanse the space of negative energy and protect it from further intrusions of unwanted energies, we carry the incense through every corner of the space and gently wrap the room in smoke. We make sure not to forget the corners of the space, where negative energy tends to particularly love to gather. We then place the cedar in a fireproof bowl and allow it to go out on its own.

Not to worry — the cedar will not burn all the way down, and you will be able to use it many more times.
