Amethyst is a beautiful purple version of the widely found Quartz crystal. The purple colour forms through natural irradiation, traces of iron and titanium, or the presence of other elements.

Its name comes from the Greek word αμεθυστoς (amethystos). The Greeks believed that the stone protected its wearer from intoxication. Today, however, we use it for entirely different purposes.
