Amethyst is the beautiful violet version of the widely known crystal Quartz. The purple colour forms through natural irradiation, traces of iron and titanium, or the presence of other elements.

Its name comes from the Greek αμεθυστoς (amethystos). The Greeks believed that the stone protected its wearer from intoxication when drinking wine. Today, however, we use it for entirely different purposes.
