Amethyst is a stunning purple variety of the common Quartz crystal. Its violet hue is created through natural irradiation, traces of iron and titanium, or the presence of other elements.

Its name comes from the Greek αμεθυστoς (amethystos). The Greeks believed that the stone protected its wearer from becoming intoxicated by wine. Today, however, we use it for entirely different purposes.
