Amethyst is a beautiful purple variety of the widely found Quartz crystal. The purple colour forms through natural irradiation, traces of iron and titanium, or the presence of other elements.

Its name comes from the Greek αμεθυστoς (amethystos). The Greeks believed that the stone protected its wearer from the effects of drinking wine. Today, however, we use it for entirely different purposes.
