Amethyst is a beautiful purple version of the widespread Quartz crystal. The purple colour forms through natural irradiation, traces of iron and titanium, or the presence of other elements.

Its name comes from the Greek αμεθυστoς (amethystos). The Greeks believed that the stone protected its wearer from intoxication when drinking wine. Today, however, we use it for entirely different purposes.
