Amethyst is a beautiful purple variety of the widely beloved Quartz crystal. Its purple colour forms through natural irradiation, traces of iron and titanium, or the presence of other elements.

Its name derives from the Greek αμεθυστoς (amethystos). The Greeks believed that the stone protected its wearer from intoxication when drinking wine. Today, of course, we use it for entirely different purposes.
